The sugar industry in Taiwan was developed very early. It all started when the Dutch encouraged the cultivation of sugar cane during the 17th century when the Dutch came to Taiwan. During the Japanese occupation period, Japan loved Taiwanese products so much that the white sugar, green sugar, deer roe, and other hides produced became the main export products. It reached its peak around the 1930s, accounting for half of the export value, and ranked third in the world in sugar production. During the Japanese era, the traditional convenience store was filled with sugar advertising papers written with white sugar. Designers at TAIWANIZE designed this product inspired by the sugar advertising papers.
